Life in Lyrics: Love Never Dies

Right, the second post for my Life in Lyrics will be on 'Love'. Yes, 'Love'! I told you I was gonna get sappy!

'Love Never Dies' is the signature song of Andrew Llyod Webber's latest musical of the same name, Love Never Dies that is, which happens to be the sequel to the much-celebrated The Phantom of the Opera. The first singer to have ever sung the song was Katherine Jenkins but the one I fell in love with is the soundtrack version sung by Sierra Boggess who currently plays the lead role of Christine Daae' at the Adelphi Theatre, West End. Much has been said about the musical but let's not go there (I haven't watched it so there's no point speculating). Let's just focus on this song I've been putting on repeat for the last few days.

Here's the video of 'Love Never Dies' being performed for the very first time in public on The South Bank Show Awards in which Sierra Boggess did wonders accompanied by the maestro Lloyd Webber himself!

Who knows when love begins,
Who knows what makes it start,
One day it's simply there,
Alive inside your heart

It slips into your thoughts,
It infiltrates your soul,
It takes you by surprise,
Then seizes full control

Try to deny it,
And try to protest,
But love won't let you go,
Once you've been possesed

Love never dies,
Love never falters,
Once it has spoken,
Love is yours

Love never fades,
Love never alters,
Hearts may get broken,
Love endures,
Hearts may get broken,
Love endures

And soon as you submit,
Surrender flesh and bone,
That love takes on a life,
Much bigger than your own

It uses you at whim,
And drives you to despair,
And forces you to feel,
More joy than you can bear

Love gives you pleasure,
And love brings you pain,
And yet when both are gone,
Love will still remain

Once it has spoken,
Love is your,
Love never dies,
Love never alters

Hearts may get broken,
Love endures,
Hearts may get broken

Love never dies
Love will continue,
Love keeps on beating,
When you're gone

Love never dies,
Once it is in you,
Love may be fleeting,
Love lives on,
Love may be fleeting,
Love lives on

I guess the song really epitomises everything we've all known and experienced about Love. It comes truly uninvited, knocking the door to our hearts at the most surprising of time. It sure brings pleasure and fill our hearts with hopes and promises and when it doesn't work, the pain is just plain unbearable. Even then, we still keep on fighting to try to salvage what we can and if we fail in getting the salvation, we're left with a deep-seated memory, a longing that causes us to desire and wait for it to comes knocking again. Yes, our hearts are broken but Love in itself endures and it'll never let us go because we ourselves can never let go of the feeling once we've been possessed.

And how do all this relate to me?

I guess I'm still longing for it to come knocking again. I've been in pain. I've felt the despair. I've tried to deny it and I've tried to protest but because I've surrendered to that thrilling joy of having someone to love once (maybe several times, or they could be mere infatuation), Love has infiltrated my soul to a point where it takes on a life much greater than my own. Every single day, no matter how busy I am, there's always that constant nagging at the back of my head telling how nice it would be to have someone to love and be loved back just to make me forget how tiring my day is. I might have stopped loving a certain person but I still yearn for Love as it neither alters nor falters. Love just never dies. It fleets in and out of our lives but Love sure lives on eternally.

Sigh...
