the good, the bad, and the killjoy

The Good

The Christmas market is back in town and dayyum, I love it!!!

3 years in the UK and trips (not just a trip) to the market every Christmas season are a must, come snow or blizzard (as in these days)!

What I love about the market is the fact that there are variety of stalls selling freaking yummy delicacies from all around Europe. If you want paella, there's no need to go all the way to Spain. You can also find Italian Focaccia bread that is best eaten when hot. There are also French pancakes or crepe, macaroons, churros, Dutch pancakes, German sausages, olives in all sorts of herbs, wide selection of cheese and many other mouth-watering European goodness to tempt your palate (or just mine if you're not in the UK =p). You can also find lots and lots of cakes and fudges and cookies to make those sweet tooth like me go crazy.

Here are some photos to make you guys a lil' jealous:

Focaccia with cheese and onion and mixed pepper toppings, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, garlic anchovies and octopus for dinner...

desserts...no idea of their names but I love those lemon and vanilla fillings...
bad bad snow destroying the paella stall...this was on my second trip to the market...
bought more sundried tomatoes and baby octopus and garlic anchovies...I'm addicted to those baby octopus, they're extremely cute and delicious!
bought a scarf just to add to my collection...winter is 3-month long so I'll need more than just, let's say, 5 scarves??? =p
I'm sooo going again for more food!!!

The Bad

The bad was the attack of North Korea on South Korea. I seriously don't get why the two sisters have to fight against each other. When will people realise that there's more to lose by fighting against each other than to work and sit around a table for a peaceful discussion?

And I don't like the speed in which the US offered it's warship in order to help South Korea. For a country in which the President received the Nobel Peace Prize barely a year ago, the move surely doesn't spell 'PEACE' in any languages known to human civilisation. As if a direct retaliation or any insinuation of an impending attack or a psychological intimidation will stop North Korea from holding on to their ideology. Is United States really the friendly world power it always claims to have become or is it still a manipulative and opportunistic so-called ally who would later turn its back?

And when will those in power start to realise that a country doesn't consist of only military personnel? There are also common civillians who just want to go about their daily lives wihtout any bombshells dropping on their front steps. And as far as I know, any military personnel is also a normal human being who is someone's father, husband, brother or son. Their lives are so much more precious to be wasted on the ideology of those in power and thus shouldn't be treated like pawns on a chess board!

I hope South Korea will consider a lot more than to simply retaliate and counter-attack. Gandhi once said 'An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind' and I think there are many these days who are already blinded by their own greed and thirst for power and domination and even more have suffered at the hands of those people.

The Killjoy

The killjoy was the nextdoor neighbour who came out of her house to scream and cursed at my friends and I while we were having a snowfight on the road.

It was Friday night and since it was snowing like the entire heaven was full of overgrown cotton, we decided to brace the cold and be childish. I know I've said I hate the snow and the main reason to that was because I hate going to lectures or hospital soaking wet and drenched but when there was no lectures or hospital to go to and when I have the entire weekend to dry myself, I guess some fun time with my friends was due.

So yeah, I guess we were kinda loud but seriously, it wasn't even past midnight! And I'm pretty sure she just wanted to find an excuse to scream at us. She has always hated us ever since we moved into the street two years ago (my previous housemates moved into another house two doors away and I often go there to spend my weekend). Then again, she has always been a very grumpy woman who spent every morning smoking in front of the house in her ugly pink or blue robe. I guess after the new government announced the spending cut, she has even more reason to be cranky knowing that she won't be getting enough benefit to use to buy more fags!

We later had to take our fight to a nearby cow field but yeah, that woman was such a killjoy!
